In the 2.0.x branch we needed to use version_compare() in two places to provide different code depending on which Drupal version we were running.
In the 2.1.x branch, we have eliminated support for D9 (see 📌 Drop D9 support Fixed ) and thus we can do away with the conditional code meant to work with older versions of Drupal/Symfony/PHP.
