Setting an external URL as destination make the user not login

Problem/Motivation

When setting an external URL as destination, the user is redirected without actually being logged.

Steps to reproduce

Configure an external URL (https://example.com) then logout.

When login, the user is redirect to https://example.com. But if he comes back to Drupal, he is not logged.
