This module does not replace Download Count

Problem/Motivation

The Download Count module counted all downloads of a particular private file. So if I have a video file and display it as a link, this module will count it. But I also display the same file in a player (using a token for the player field) and this module does not count when it is viewed.

Steps to reproduce

Create a file field, upload a media file, add an html tag to the node body to view the file in the node. View the file from several different devices. The counter is not incremented.

Proposed resolution

The module would only be useful if it tracked all file access events, rather than mere clicks on a link. Sorry, I am not a developer.
