Is there a way to directly upgrade 1.6 to 3.2.2?

Problem/Motivation

I am currently using group 1.6. Is there a way to directly upgrade 1.6 to 3.2.2?
Currently I can upgrade from 1.6 to 2.2.2, and then from 2.2.2 to 3.2.2
But I want to complete the migration from 1.6 to 3.2.2 through some scripts. Is there any recommended way to achieve this leap?
