Is Group Forum module still needed to limit forum access in Group 2.x?

Problem/Motivation

This module does not seem to be getting updates to keep up with Drupal core and Group module developments. Thus I would like to know if it is still needed to restrict access to group forums, or if it is no longer needed with Group 2.x or 3.x.

It's currently not compatible, there is work in progress in 📌 Group 2.x compatible version Active and I see this one as a duplicate. As I stated elsewhere, we're not using the forum module anywhere, I can't really help with maintenance much, especially because I'm not familiar with the group module beyond version 1, yet.
