We are having a similar issue where the name of the group will not show up unless the user is logged in. This is happening on a view.
It is not possible to display the title of the without the default page title.
Only the Page-Title shows the group name. The Title_field does not display anything.
But when i select Label: "above", the label can be seen but only where the page title is positioned. The title_field still nowhere (nothing in dev-tools).
1. Setup Drupal 10.2.3
2. Install and activate the module Group (and all necessary modules)
3. Add TestGroupType and Testgroupe
4. Move title_field in "Manage Display" of the TestGroupeType
