select_item GA4 event - approach?

Problem/Motivation

I am implementing some cross sells - and was hoping to be able to track their display and more importantly - customer clicks on those cross sells to monitor their onward journey through the conversion funnel.

I don't see anywhere within the module that we support any form of click handling solution that can pass a dataLayer object for onward consumption.

Has anybody implemented anything around the GA4 "select_item" event - or should I be handling this with a custom template / block / javascript?
