Dynamically refreshing content without page reload

Problem/Motivation

We are looking into ways in which we can load dynamic content without forcing a page reload. Is this something that is being considered for the Smart Content module? If not, would you suggest a preferred way of achieving this (ie. modifying the module's existing Javascript)?
