For one of our projects we need to restrict access to menu items. We use https://www.drupal.org/project/menu_item_role_access → for that. However, we also use a headless front-end, so the access to the menu items is restricted, but when gathering the items, the access isn't checked.
Unsure if this really fits this module, but please see attached patch :)
