Tab Title field not working with Replacement Patterns

On the "Attach as tab: Enabled" settings page, there is a checkbox to "Use replacement tokens from the first row". I checked that box. I then placed a field value in the "Tab Title" field ({{ field_year_for_timeline }}). This results in the value for that field for the first tab's node to be used for all of the tabs. So instead of this as my tab titles:

1990 | 1991 | 1992 | 1993

I get this:

1990 | 1990 | 1990 | 1990

Why is this happening, and how can I fix it?
