This is still an issue in the rc1. If there is an issue with the updated patch and/or a single version that can run on >=8 and current versions of D10, that should be specified in the https://git.drupalcode.org/project/site/-/blob/2.x/composer.json and/or https://git.drupalcode.org/project/site/-/blob/2.x/site.info.yml in different versions.
Putting out an RC that can't even be installed in the current version because it requires a patch that can't be applied is not really a great indication that this project is really ready for a release.

Removed the patch completely. It's only needed when using views.
I added help text to the README about the patches.
