The gin theme is still broken with the select2. You can see with the issue that I linked to that this issue was potentially fixed for claro but it was never fixed for Gin.
Install gin theme version 8.x-3.0-rc6 on Drupal 9.5.9. Install select2 and you should see that the items selected appear broken.
