After digging a bit more on the paths I found that I first needed to go through this url first:
/admin/reports/updates/backdrop-upgradeOtherwise this page (the one I was visiting) does not show correct information:
/admin/reports/backdrop-upgradeMaybe this page should add a messagebox pointing to the first page warning to user to fetch all required information first.

Great point - I've added the text "No contributed modules detected. Run cron or check manually." (with links to each of those two tasks) as the "empty" value for the list of contributed modules.
Automatically closed - issue fixed for 2 weeks with no activity.
