Site crashes when sending a plain text email that was formatted by a different module

Problem/Motivation

If you configure the Default PHP Mailer in MailSystem as the formatter, but use Symfony Mailer Lite as the sender, the site crashes when sending the email.

Proposed resolution

Need to handle the different formatting of plain text messages coming from other modules.
