ACL for D8 and D9 β€” BETA3

Created on 5 August 2023, 11 months ago
Updated 24 September 2023, 9 months ago

We have about 4000 known sites running BETA1 for years already. Some bugs remained in the user interface, and a number of compatibility issues with later versions of Drupal and PHP needed to be fixed.

BETA3 takes care of all these issues, remaining backward compatible down to Drupal 8.9 on PHP 7.1. There will be a new branch for D10 up to PHP 8.3.

This issue is intended to record testing progress.

Please test this version and provide feedback, both good and bad:

We need specific testing in the following areas:

  1. Running under D8.9 (user's point of view)
  2. Serving D8.9 client modules (developer's point of view)
  3. Running under D9.5 (user's point of view)
  4. Serving D9.5 client modules (developer's point of view)

Unfortunately, Devel Node Access for D8 is not functional ( #2643136: Plan to port DNA to D8 β†’ ).

As of today, the usage statistics report that 3120 sites are still running 8.x-1.0-beta1. It is down from 4000 in August, but the wanted upgrades 8.x-1.0-beta3 has been moving at a slow pace, and none of these users have provided any kind of feedback. I also think that 8.x-1.0-beta3 is insecure and users that require a version compatible with Drupal 9 need to upgrade to the latest full release: 8.x-1.1.

I would like to help out by providing QA for this project, but not any more for the 8.x branch (which I consider obsolete).

The only branch I am interested in is the 2.x branch.

I think you should close this issue as outdated, and open up a new issue for those of interested in providing feedback for the 2.x branch.

I agree. I'll do so when 2.0-beta1 is out.

Thank you for the nice summary of the situation.
