The main issue is the league/commonmark module required by the Markdown module is 1.x, while the Markdown Easy module requires 2.x

Can we throw a warning up on the Status Report (or during install) if the dependency version is too low?

    This was actually an issue with the composer.json file in that it wasn't forcing the version requirement on league/commonmark. Should be all fixed now - Markdown Easy should not be allowed to be installed without the proper version of league/commonmark.
