I'm sure this would be a major feature, because currently yes, config is left in the site even when the feature is installed. We could offer an option to ensure that any configuration created in the feature gets the "enforced dependency module" set which means that the config should be uninstalled when the feature module is uninstalled, but it would need to be an opt-in behavior.
