automatically attached fields can't have their value plugin configured

I remember the rationale for this now -- if you're creating a plugin yourself to attach it automatically, you control the class so you don't need it to be configurable - you just hardcode it.

But it can be useful with derivative plugins, or using the plugin alter hook to define a plugin from an existing class.
