Composer update from 8.11 to 8.12 does nothing

On Drupal 10.0.9:

composer update drupal/address
Gathering patches for root package.
Loading composer repositories with package information
Updating dependencies
Nothing to modify in lock file
Installing dependencies from lock file (including require-dev)
Nothing to install, update or remove

Is there an upgrade path to 2.0? Thanks...

Sure, you can go to 2.0.x without a problem.

That won't happen magically though, you need to composer require drupal/address ^2.0.0
