Port component selector improvements from Widget Type module

https://git.drupalcode.org/project/widget_type/-/blob/1.x/src/Element/Wi... contains an evolution of the code that started here in the component selector. I believe that the current state of the Widget selector is better than the component selector here.

Let's take the code in the Widget Type module and adapt it for our component selector.
