You can only trigger this if your site's pathologic.settings.yml file is missing the local_paths definition. Not sure how you get to that state if you're keeping up with DB updates. Maybe there's a bug that this config setting isn't properly migrated from legacy config or something?

Slightly concerned we're just masking a deeper problem here. Your config is supposed to be updated, and the module code is supposed to be able to rely on accurate config schema + definitions, instead of having defensive code sprinkled throughout the module anytime it needs to check config to handle things that are stale.

That said, a ?? '' is a very small price to pay, and it prevents the warnings on sites that have the missing config, so I felt it's worth committing this and moving on. 😅

I absolutely agree. I am not sure how we got here either. Maybe at some point updb was run before cim.
