Can we filter messages and adjust/supress the ones we want to?

Problem/Motivation

I would like to understand better quite what we mean by 'override' here and I'm not clear from the documentation
Does this module enable us to target certain messages (specific ones and 'types) and then either:

1. Supress them completely
2. Adjust the wording

Much like the Disable Messages → module does

Further, does it enable us to auto-close after a certain time?
