Merging authors with short names

Multiple authors sharing the same short name

We want to merge authors who have short names for example Yu Li

The problem is that the autocomplete field, which returns results for the authors in the system, cannot find the same contributor names, with length of two symbols. For instance we cannot find the duplicate of Yu Li. Is there a setting concerning the length of author's name/surname? Can we reduce the length to two symbols?
