How to use shortcodes?

How are the shortcodes supposed to be used?

I've tried adding various shortcodes and it doesnt display any styling, there doesnt seem to be anything in the CSS with the shortcodes classes, for example there is no css in shortcodes.css for the class "box-primary".

What am i missing?
