Browser back button resets the form

Problem/Motivation

When filling out a node creation form with multiple steps, if a user goes back to Step 1 by using the browser's back button after progressing to Step 2, the form will reset. Any previously filled-out form fields will be cleared, and the user will need to begin the node creation process again.

This is obviously a frustrating UX for the user. Any way to combat this?
