"Entered link" option always sends with target=0 so it open in new window and the user has not the possibility to change it.

Create your entity and your field Image Link, and just use the option "Entered Link".
Now go to the edit page where you are using this field. If you leave the link empty, it sends to and always to target 0, new window.
Let to the user the possibility to choose individually by image the target link.
Add new option on settings form widget to enabled/disabled field link required.
If we leave the link field empty, now it render the image without the link.
