Only works with field collection fields, not normal fields

If the Field collection module is enabled, this module only works with Field collection fields.
Validation of normal fields is completely silent.

When checking what is processed by hook_field_attach_validate, only some field collection fields and nothing else show up.

Neither the field I wish to control gets through.

Any pointer?
