I'm working on a project where I need to use the EC2 role as the role for accessing services in AWS.
I see this issue is similar but it is for the version 3.x.:

But we are still using version 2.x which is the stable release required by another module.
Create a patch for version 2.x which goes through all the credentials steps if the access key or secret key are empty.
