As stated on the "Usage" section of the module's readme you need to use a different block to render the menu.
I just installed the module and I can't make the new field created appear both in the default menu and also in the mega menu
- Install Module
- Create field plain text
- Verify manage display
- Edit menu and add text in new field
- Check if the field is displayed
But as mentioned above, the new field is not shown, neither in the drupal default menu nor with tb mega menu
