When using a Paragraph field reference within a Layout Paragraph display, the dropdown button for selecting the referenced Paragraph field does not display properly if the referenced field is not also set to use the Layout Paragraph display.
I expected to be able to select the referenced Paragraph field using the dropdown button, but instead the button does not display correctly, as illustrated in the attached screenshot.
