The deprecation was introduced in Drupal 9.3, and drupal_get_path() was removed in Drupal 10. Because we have now stopped supporting Drupal 8, and because the minimum core version supported for this module is now Drupal 9.3, we can make this change without breaking backwards compatibility. And this change is required for Drupal 10 support.
