If an entity_reference_autocomplete is configured to have field_config_cardinality = 1 but the storage cardinality allows multiple values the
entity_reference_autocomplete looks like the user can use multiple values.
Use an entity reference field with storage cardinality > 1.
Configure field_config_cardinality = 1 for this field.
Use the entity_reference_autocomplete widget in the form.
Use the single widget for field_config_cardinality = 1.
