@undertext, thank you for the patch. Sorry I didn't respond earlier, I had my notifications set up incorrectly for this project.
@michael.roosz, have you tested @undertext's patch to see if it fixes the problem for you?
Steps to reproduce:
1. Create a content type with a Paragraphs field
2. Create a new Paragraph type called "Host paragraph" with another Paragraphs field called "field_children" referencing a "Child paragraph" Paragraph type
3. Use "Vertical Tabs" widget for "field_children" field
4. Try to add a Host paragraph to the new content page. The widget will be rendered as an empty form
