This works just fine for me. It's either been fixed since reported or else was just an issue with the Facet API itself, which we don't control.
I have installed the last Kickstart with demo commerce content.
In the Catalog page is possible to check one category with facets but it is not possible to uncheck it.

It's likely this issue predates Contrib.social: some issue and comment data are missing.
