Help using this with my own custom layouts.

Is there documentation or an example you can point to on how to implement this with my own custom layouts? I have custom layouts in a custom module that I am using for Layout Paragraphs. I used the example.style_options.yml file and created my custom_layouts.style_options.yml file in my custom module and created some styles and assigned them to paragraphs and that is working perfectly, but when I try to assign them to layouts in the contexts key, nothing gets applied to my layouts even if I give default options in the layout key under contexts. Do I have to do something specific in my layouts in order for these styles to show up when using Layout Paragraphs? I thought it would just be automatic if I applied defaults to ALL layouts.
