This module is awesome!
But i still have one question/issue - i would like to be able to theme the emails sent by this module. Is it possible to drop a file in my theme directory to do this? If so, what should it be called and what would I need to put in there to output the original message?

It's likely this issue predates Contrib.social: some issue and comment data are missing.
The theming is handled by the mail (formatting) module you select. You have to theme mails sent for this module ("views_send") with key "direct".
Not all mail modules handle theming very well.
