What's needed for a stable release?

Problem/Motivation

I currently use the Message Stack in conjunction with the Flag module to handle subscriptions to content email notifications of new comments.

The Message Stack is overkill for my use case and also depends upon knowledge and skills that I do not possess.

Entity Activity appears to be an exact match for my use case and likely needs less knowledge to implement and maintain.

So far so great.

However, two things are holding me back.

1. The lack of a stable release. I do use other modules which are beta releases, but am trying to move away from this.

So, are there significant issues that currently block a stable release? Is there anything that we can do to assist with moving this module to a stable release?

2. The relatively low installation numbers of what appears to be a feature rich module that offers something many sites are likely to want. What am I missing here?
