Child Theme isn't saving slideshow settings

Problem/Motivation

I'm working on a child theme and each time I change the slides by adding an image or any of the text in the theme settings, this goes back to the default. I even tried to put text and images in all 3 slides.

Steps to reproduce

Create a child theme
Go into the child theme settings in the admin area
Add an image and text to the slides, and click save.

The changes I made last time got undone when I upgraded the theme.
