As far as I know, Gin already has the functionality to collapse/uncollapse its sidebar. So perhaps the elbow_room module is not necessary for Gin users?
On gin, whilst this modle does work, the content does not expand
Enable Elbow Room module
Enable and set Gin as admin theme
Go to add content some content
Hide the sidebar
We need to find a way to make layout-region-node-main grow when layout-region-node-secondary is hidden in gin.
