Add support for Google Tag Manager consent storage

Created on 13 April 2022, about 2 years ago
Updated 14 May 2024, about 1 month ago

Problem/Motivation

It would be great if the user's saved consents on the website could be applied to consent types defined in GTM. So GTM would only load those ad or tracking scripts that the user enabled.

See example:
https://developers.google.com/tag-platform/devguides/consent#implementat...

I don't know which module would be suited better for the implementation, this or the google_tag. But since the cookie categories are defined here, I'm sending the request here.

So it looks like there is a sandbox module which should provide this functionality:

COOKiES Google Tag Manager Consent: https://www.drupal.org/sandbox/gresko8/3267405 β†’

I am posting an issue in the project's queue to ask if we can help to get the module out of the sandbox.

I wonder whether it might be useful to post a link to this sandbox project on the COOKiES homepage, as it will be a crucial link between the COOKiES module and the Google Tag module for users in e.g. the European Union who need to implement Google's Consent Mode in order to get accurate analytics tracking data.

    Hello everyone,

we are also using the Cookies module in combination with Google Tag. I installed the sandbox project linked in #7 but other than adding some new configuration options within the gtag section of the cookies module, it doesnt seem to do much. Maybe it is not targeting consent mode v2.

Is there a working solution now that is in compliance with google consent mode v2 when using gtag?

    Thanks
