Entity reference field rendering in a wrong way

Problem/Motivation

I have a REST view that retrieves a list of users, users has a field reference called field_child (user reference).
I want to return a bunch of TEXTFIELDS (first name and last name) from that child.
The returned JSON contains unneeded HTML and objects

I am moving support to version 3, can you please confirm if this issue still exists in version 3.
If it does still exist please change the version dropdown to 3.0.x and set the status to Needs Work.
