The issue comes from the field_formatter module. I'm referencing an issue where there's a patch solving it.
Thanks for the module. But there is a big problem with it.
I have a multilingual website in 7 languages. Taxonomy terms are translated to all of them. When using the "Limit the number of rendered items" format, taxonomy items are not translated.
Once I select format back to the "Label" - everything is rendered as expected in the current page language.
