In the same vane as https://www.drupal.org/project/multiple_fields_remove_button/issues/3112831 → , the https://www.drupal.org/project/term_reference_tree → module should be skipped.
Cannot use the term_reference_tree and multiple_fields_remove_button modules together. Not sure exactly why, but this has only become an issue since updating to the 8.x-1.0 release of term_reference_tree.
Enable both the term_reference_tree and multiple_fields_remove_button modules. Configure the term_reference_tree as the widget for an entity reference, taxonomy term field. Load the node add screen. Notice the "Remove" button from the multiple_fields_remove_button, but the usual tree widget from term_reference_tree is missing.
Add the term_reference_tree field widget to the skipWidgets list.
