That's very strange, I'd assume it's something special about your environment specifically, maybe something like the max-allowed-packet being too small?
The module throws a unsettling error in Drupal 9. When you go into the View UI and load the Data Export display or perform any edits on it, the UI churns for a long time and then this error is thrown in the server terminal.

Simple install in Drupal 9 and configure a View for it. This example is running inside a Docker stack, but I doubt that has anything to do with this.
