They are related. This issue was opened a few years ago when I was first looking at Flysystem (library) v2.
The goal here is to implement a wrapper for Flysystem's (library) FlysystemReader and FlysystemWriter classes, that also implements Drupal's StreamWrapperInterface and PhpStreamWrapperInterface, so that we can take advantage of all the core features regarding streaming and file management.
If you look at the two classes, FlysystemReader and FlysystemWriter, they are remarkably consistent with the PhpStreamWrapperInterface, so the lift won't be significant to do this.
