@markie and I discussed this and do not feel that there are enough sites using Quickedit to warrant investing contributors' time to implement this request.

Quickedit has an option to edit Formatted Textarea fields inline by using an inline editor.
That editor is applied based on formatters. If it isn't supported then it automatically chooses a form edit option.
Proposal: add quickedit editor option to smart_trim so the same inline editor will be used on smart_trim formatter as the one on the core Default formatter for long text.
Note: When testing make sure that you clear the window.sessionStorage because all the data about what editors apply to what fields are saved there and if a change is made to change the formatters it will not reflect in window.sessionStorage.
