While exploring the Queue API, I noticed that the backend is selected by defined settings, or fallbacks to the database backend if they haven't been set. These settings are however not documented in the settings file.
These are:
queue_default
queue_service_$name
queue_reliable_service_$name
where $name is the name of the queue to be work with.
Update default.settings.php and document these settings.
