OEmbed Thumbnails do not obey default file scheme configuration

Created on 9 August 2019, over 5 years ago
Updated 29 May 2023, over 1 year ago

Repeatable: Always
Steps to repeat:
1. Prepare a Drupal installation that uses private files as default storage.
2. Enable Media OEmbed, and set up a Content type that uses it on its fields.
2. Create a node on this new Content type, add an OEmbed video on it, and save the node.

Expected Results:
The video thumbnail should be stored on the private files folder.

Actual Results:
The video thumbnail is instead stored on the public files folder.

#5 works great, however on the page /admin/people/permissions we have "oEmbed resources" at the position "View files" instead "View own private files". So everyone sees them. Permissions are not working others can see my private embeds. This only doesn't work for embeds, for files it's OK. I would like, for example, YouTube videos embedded by me to be available only to me and not to other logged in users. How to do it?
