Patch #4 looks like a good approach (similar approach is used also in D7 core, see: system_null_version_test.module).

I was going to suggest that we remove both files geofield_openlayers_test.info and geofield_openlayers_test.module, as these are not used currenty, but let's keep them in case there will be tests added in the future.
