New fields don't display when hide blank item, and hide initial item is set

It fixed the issue of hiding the initial item. Fantastic, but now, when I click 'add new item' the throbber appears, and then nothing happens.
The button no longer does anything, BUT if I just save the node. The item was added, so it just doesn't appear.

If I re-edit the node, it the collection shows. I can click 'add new item' and the same process occurs, it doesn't show but if I save the node, it actually was added.

If I click 'remove' on any of the items, it will remove them and fade them away, and then the 'hidden' ones show and I can add and remove any/all of the field collection items. At this point it works as it should.

So, in order for me to get the field to work, I have to first add an item, save the node, re-edit the item, remove an item, and then it will work as it should.

I am not sure where to look for the issue.
